Project Theta (RPG devlog) Chapter Nine: std::cout << "I like Coding...Not losing Progress.\n";
Hello Fellow Humans!
I slept so much last night...like 14 hours worth. So now I'm slightly drowsy and also pissed...as you'll see.
- Rambling
I love coding. I really, really enjoy it. It feels like your vision is a giant cement block and each line of code is a chisel that you use to sculpt your idea out. Basically, code is to me as art is to an artist. I have enjoyed it a lot now that I'm not being forced to learn it at school. So now that I've gotten to so the coding part of game development, I've been happy. But you know what isn't fun? Having all your work from the last three days removed. It's like someone pouring a bucket of red paint on your masterpiece. Granted, my game is anything but a masterpiece, but the feeling is still the same. So here's the moral of the story...Document everything after you finish working. Always, always, always document. Otherwise, you're going to regret it for the next hour. No pressure though. So there's my rant on losing progress. I've made all of it up, but that wasted another 10 hours of my work time. Anyway, that's it for this rambling. Here's the update.
- What's The Progress?
Well I'm happy to say that I've accomplished nothing in my life...oh wait you wanted to know about the game...right. So far I have completed movement, hurtboxes, attacks for the player, and half of the rat enemy so far. So basically, the player do stuff now. They can attack, run, stop, and die(though there is currently no death animation...maybe I'll add one, but not sure yet as it's not high priority.). So yeah, I would say I've done a lot, especially since I've basically done it 3 times over with how much progress I keep forgetting to document.
- What's The Plan Moving Forward?
I will be working on the rat enemy, bat enemy...basically, I'm making the enemies now. Now that I've got the players done (basically), it's time to make stuff for them to kill. I might also get a start on objects and stuff but that's lower priority since it's fast. Overall I think the code part will be done by late July/Early August giving me plenty of time to make the UI and Level Design as best as possible. So far the game looks like it's going to go well...until I hit that dumpster fire that I know I'll hit at some point. Oh music, that thing... I'll be trying to do some music soon as I see the need. I'll also try to find some free SFX for the game too.
