Project Theta (RPG devlog) Chapter Four: Building A World To Play In

Hello fellow humans,

*For now my devlogs will be comprised of the rambling section where you get to enjoy or suffer through my dry and sarcastic humor and everything else will be the actual updates for the game. I just like being both funny and excruciatingly painful to listen to at the same time but want to also update people about, you know, the actual game. So the solution is a rambling section of random knowledge, sarcasm, and dry humor. Skip it to get to the serious stuff with slightly less jokes but probably better ones.

  • Rambling

Today I have some especially wonderful news. Episode one of Re:Zero Season 2 was good. Oh what you wanted a update on the game? I also have wonderful news about that below but this is the Rambling section! I have used the last two days to get some art done. I've used pixel art as a stress relief oddly enough even though I've never been a huge fan of art. Who knew randomly placing color squares in random locations could actually be so relaxing? Maybe I should have paid more attention in art class. Live and learn I guess. I wonder if doing music will be the same. I hope so at least. I also did the thing that I've wanted to do for the last month or so. I got a nap. I've gone the last month probably averaging 5 and a half hours of sleep a day due to game jams and anxiety. I finally got a nice long 20 minute nap. Shoutout to tea for taking me this far! Well, that's it for rambling today. Next time I'll have even more dry humor and useless knowledge for you people! Enjoy the real update for now.

  • So What'd You Actually Do?

Here's the list.

Drink Tea. Do Pixel Art.  Drink Tea. Do Pixel Art. Look at the coffee and wonder if I need more caffeine. Do Pixel Art.

I had 3 cups of tea in one hour last night so yeah...and I wonder how I have a caffeine addiction... I completed most of if not all of the environments, and worked on some of the older sprites. I will have some of the art shown below for you to check out. Let's just say that it was...interesting as an experience? I tried to think about the game as sections that I needed to add art for so I have grass, sand, rocks, bushes, lave, water, doors, and dungeon walls/floors. I will probably make a sprite for each individual temple/dungeon in the game for an outside view soon. So i basically drew all the pieces for the world I considered necessary to have on hand early.

  • What's Next?

Tomorrow I will touch up a lot of the art and make it better. After that I'll work on music and some coding. I'm going to have to work in the browser version of godot until the end of July so I'm trying to do all of the non-coding stuff first. I will probably have a soundtrack for the game in a few weeks though so look forward to that!
